– Israel Plans to Wean Off American Aid:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to gradually decrease the $3.8 billion of annual American aid that Israel currently receives. The Prime Minister aims to negotiate a new 10-year security agreement to extend US military support, with plans to cease its security assistance entirely by 2028, prompting strategic changes in the budgeting for Israel’s defense sector.

– Support for New Militias in Gaza:

According to reports, Israel is extending substantial support, including drone aid and intelligence sharing, to new militias fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The support allows Israel to reach areas restricted by the ceasefire agreement and under Hamas control, prompting Hamas to label these militias as “agents of the Israeli occupation”.

– Railway Infrastructure Improvement:

Efforts are underway to enhance Israel Railway’s services and infrastructure, aiming to improve the passenger experience. The upgrades include platform extensions, improved shelter, and the installation of information screens and other facilities. A new exit structure will also soon improve access from key platforms.

– Transition from Direct Aid to Joint Security Partnerships:

In the proposed changes to its financial relationship with the US, Israel plans to morph their direct financial aid to strategic, joint security partnerships. The styled agreements, which currently involve around $3.3 billion primarily spent on American military equipment, will be replaced with joint projects like the Iron Dome and David’s Sling air defense systems.

– Prerequisites to Gaza Recovery:

Amidst the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, Prime Minister Netanyahu argues that disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza strip are necessary precursors to recovery talks. Furthermore, Netanyahu backed Jared Kushner’s agreement presented at Davos stating that recovery would only happen in fully demilitarized areas devoid of heavy weapons and terrorist infrastructure.

– Expanding Israeli Influence in Latin America:

Growing political pressure from the US in Latin America is purportedly paving the way for wider Israeli influence in the region. Despite enduring solidarity with the Palestinian cause, interventions by the US seem to be encouraging regional leaders to foster closer ties with Israel. However, this progression does not signify the disappearance of support for the Palestinian state, but rather a shift to legal channels and multinational institutions, along with rising public awareness.
