– Peace or War with Syria under Julani’s Rule:

A year after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, the new leader Mohammad al-Julani, a former key figure in Al-Qaeda, leaves Israel contemplating the prospects of peace or war under his rule. While Julani works towards reviving the country’s economy by uplifting the crippling sanctions that were recently lifted by the U.S. and the U.N. Security Council, his jihadist past casts a long shadow of uncertainty, triggering concern and vigilance among Israelis.

– Momentary Halt in U.S. Intelligence Assistance to Israel:

Late 2024 witnessed a temporary halt in the Biden administration’s provision of sensitive intelligence data to Israel, a response to alleged Israeli conduct in the Gaza Strip. Despite the pause, the U.S. continues to support Israel; the decision to restrict sensitive information was aimed at ensuring Israeli adherence to U.S. law.

– Hamas: A Perpetual Threat Despite Continued Assassinations:

The assassination of Raad Sa’ad, the head of Hamas operations, may seem like a tactical victory for Israel, but it doesn’t alter the strategic landscape with Hamas allegedly using aid to bolster up its military prowess. Debate still rages over whether an alternate governance system can entirely disarm Hamas.

– Iran’s Regional Defense System Failures:

Former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani confessed to the failure of Iran’s regional defense system aimed to fend off Israeli air strikes. Despite having revealed local air defense systems like Bavar-373 and Khordad-15, Israeli air strikes continued to be successful, indicating that Iran’s efforts to establish an air defense network were futile.

– Lebanon’s Push for Diplomatic Awareness:

Lebanon, grappling with growing Israeli threats, has been advocating for increased diplomatic involvement in military negotiations. Weak public support for Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, stemming from significant political shifts between 2023 to 2024, has fueled proposals demanding Lebanon legislate a law requiring Hezbollah’s disarmament.

– Qatar’s Stance on Gaza Strip Rebuilding:

Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed Al Thani, confirmed that the nation will not finance the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. However, Qatar is open to joint efforts with other countries for this endeavor. The Prime Minister also voiced concerns over the financial support provided to Hamas by Washington and Israel, renewing concerns of widespread antisemitism propagated by potential international players like Russia, China, or other Middle Eastern nations.
