The tragic murder of Charlie Kirk, a staunch defender of Israel and outspoken critic of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, profoundly shook the Jewish world. A fierce advocate of Israel, Kirk stood up for the Jewish nation in global forums, even amidst raging anti-Israel rhetoric. His religious fervor and passionate support for Israel’s right to self-defense made him a prominent figure in the fight against anti-Semitism. His death is a profound loss not just for America, but for Israel and the Jewish community worldwide.

Charlie Kirk was unyieldingly loyal to Israel, extending his support even amidst increasing hostility towards the Jewish nation. At a time when many of our allies remain silent or actively turn against us, Kirk embodied steadfast and unwavering support. He frequently visited Israel, demonstrating his allegiance, all while engaging in the struggle against Iran, another powerful foe of the Jewish state.

Remarkably, Kirk, like many within our ranks, was not spared from the sinister clutches of conspiracy theories. His fight against disinformation was emblematic, starting with misinformation surrounding COVID-19 to unfounded allegations about the US election in 2020. His commitment to truth mirrored our historical Jewish struggle against conspiracy theories and anti-semitic falsehoods, reinforcing the bond between us.

His murder and the unfolding aftermath instigated a flurry of reactions within Israel, some deeply distressing. Notably, Itamar Ben-Gvir, a staunch Israeli nationalist, echoed fears that such politically motivated murders may soon occur within Israel itself. This tragedy brings to light the ever-looming threat that anti-Semitic violence continues to pose to our people in today’s polarized world.

Charlie Kirk’s tragic death is a stark reminder of the relentless fight against hatred, conspiracy theories, and misinformation – a fight that Israel, the Jewish people, and our allies face every day. His commitment to Israel and his unyielding stand against anti-Semitism set an example for all those striving for the rights of Israel and the Jewish people. As we mourn his loss, we also reaffirm our resolve to stand against any form of hatred and discrimination.

In a particularly concerning video released recently, Spain’s left-wing Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, delivered an unwarranted tirade against Israel and even expressed regret that Spain lacked nuclear weapons to “stop Israel.”

Sánchez’s official video, approximately a minute and a half long, saw him condemning Israel and openly admitting that Spain lacked the power or capability to “stop the ongoing slaughter in Gaza.” He went on to list the actions his administration has taken against Israel, including an arms embargo enforced since late 2023. Added to these were new measures such as prohibiting docking of ships in the country’s territory and a ban on the entry of certain Israeli ministers.

Essentially, Sánchez was lamenting that Spain could not do more, stating, “Spain, as you know, does not have nuclear bombs, nor aircraft carriers or significant oil reserves. We alone cannot stop the Israeli attack. But that does not mean that we will stop trying.”

Sánchez’s statement has firstly drawn fierce criticism, with accusations of blatant anti-Semitism. The core issue here is Sánchez’s hypocritical stance. While he decries the “genocide” of Palestinians and laments his lack of power to, at a minimum, threaten Israel with mass destruction to control it, he conveniently ignores the realities on the ground. Israel consistently defends itself against rockets, terrorism, and threats to its sovereignty. In such circumstances, his seemingly baseless allegations appear to be a dangerous red herring. His regret over the lack of nuclear armaments is particularly distressing, as it bears the implication of an open threat against Israel.

Israel, a beacon of democracy in the Middle East, will not be swayed by baseless accusations and threats. Instead, it will continue pursuing its legitimate right to self-defense, while striving for peace and coexistence. Let us hope that leaders like Sánchez can look beyond their biases to recognize Israel’s plight and contributions to the global community.
