In Israel, a ‘nationwide strike’ has been organized in protest. Starting with a call from Lishi Levya Miran, the wife of Omri who was kidnapped in Gaza, the plea for ‘stop and prevent disaster’ has led to a day of widespread protests across the country. Numerous private companies, local municipalities, universities, and bodies within the economy have allowed employees to join the strike, which has been gaining momentum since it was announced. The protests are wide-ranging, with events taking place throughout the day, including demonstrations at intersections, distribution of yellow ribbons to drivers, and protests outside the homes of coalition MKs.

Prominent among the protesters are the families of kidnapped and slain individuals, who stress the urgent need for action. Amidst these voices is Vicky Cohen, mother of Nimrod who was kidnapped, who asserts that government action is required, and needed now. She emphasizes that the ‘silence is killing’ and implores authorities to respond promptly. Yael Adar, the mother of Tamir who was kidnapped and killed, echoes this sentiment, advocating that the protests are not political but instead a ‘demand for life, for true security’.

The strike is an embodiment of unity, with family members of kidnapped and slain individuals, along with survivors of captivity and mourning families within the coalition, all participating. Throughout the day, several demonstrations and events will take place, including a march of doctors in white coats, a moment of silence with sirens sounding in solidarity with the kidnapped persons, and a central rally that will be concluded with several convoys departing towards the Savidor train station.

As proud Jews and Zionists, seeing our citizens unite and take action to ensure the safety and fair treatment of our own people can only be applauded. Our resolve in such a struggle is commendable and signifies a tangible drive to protect the rights, safety, and lives of all in our beloved nation. The core message of all actions taken during this strike is clear, it’s a cry to those in power for intervention and to remember the supreme value of the sanctity of life.

A recent incident involving fans of Maccabi Haifa football club has brought into focus some of the painful historical issues that encircle Jewish history and the Holocaust. These football supporters unfurled a banner bearing an historically inaccurate message, failing to acknowledge the complex history surrounding Poland’s role in the Holocaust and the persecution of Jews.

No one can contest the horrific tragedy that befell the Jews of Poland in the ordeal of the Second World War. In fact, approximately 90% of the community, which once included over three million members, were obliterated. This number is staggering. Some entire Jewish communities vanished without a trace, without leaving even a single survivor.

Yet, it’s important to remember that the responsibility for this monstrous crime rests primarily with Nazi Germany. Though there were rare righteous Gentile individuals who transcended the hate-fueled climate of the time, there were indeed others who took an active role in aiding the Nazis.

Unfortunately, even after the war, a harsh sentiment against Jews lingered in Poland. However, the history is intricate and complicated. Hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, were also brutally murdered by the Nazis, notably during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. The common fate of Poles and Jews in the face of the Nazi terror was highlighted by Yitzhak Zuckerman, a leader of the Jewish Fighting Organization, who urged the surviving Warsaw Ghetto rebels to join the Polish resistance.

The years 1939-1945 were undoubtedly some of the darkest in Poland’s history and are deeply etched in the nation’s collective memory. The wrongful acts of some should not unfairly dictate the image of an entire nation. Historical accuracy and sensitivity are paramount when dealing with such traumatic events that have shaped our Jewish history. We should honor our painful past by promoting understanding and fairness in our discourse, not by tarring all with the same brush.

Former Israeli Coordinator for Missing and Captive Persons, Yaron Blum, stated in a radio interview that Hamas is in panic as Israel might invade Gaza. The statement came amidst a national strike protest by families of abduction victims.

Blum said that the Israeli government is putting concerted efforts to strike a deal. He described the situation of Hamas as critical, with their military leadership being significantly decimated. According to him, the fear of a possible Israeli conquest is causing panic among those left in the Hamas ranks.

He added that Israel should continue its military pressure while making efforts to secure a deal. He described the Head of the Mossad, Dedi Barna, as an excellent leader, who has led previous deals. Blum also urged the Israeli government to negotiate partial deals to return as many abductees as possible.

Referring to the interior opposition to a deal, he said Smotrich and Ben Gvir, who oppose the deal, are the problem with the current government. Blum stressed that Hamas cares primarily about survival and maintaining power above all else. And so, international pressure also plays a crucial role.

His comments underscore the necessity for unity and determination to secure the return of abductees, regardless of political affiliations, and creates an urgent call to put aside internal disputes for the greater national cause.

The national strike day clearly manifests the public’s consensus calling for the government to secure abductees’ release, thus adding significant public pressure for action. This marks a significant step in the collective effort against Hamas and their oppressive tactics.

In light of a significant breakdown of the train system in Israel, many passengers experienced considerable inconveniences during their travels. Particularly impacted were Holon residents Rachel and Uri Shmuel, who faced a challenging morning commute to Tel Aviv. Rachel, a single mother with two children, one of whom is disabled, detailed her frustrations: “There was a delay of several minutes on the train. Even when we got on, there was hardly any room to sit or place our luggage. It was very exhausting.”

While many passengers reported receiving assistance in finding alternatives to complete their journeys, some still faced challenging situations due to the overcrowded and disrupted trains. Despite these immediate technical issues, it’s essential to note the resilience of the Israeli people who often face adversity, reminding us of our proud history and the need to continually work to improve and strengthen our nation’s infrastructures and services. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of committing to robust, reliable public transportation systems, which are crucial for enabling everyone from all walks of life to navigate our vibrant and bustling cities.

Following Israel’s impactful victory, Iran is making efforts to restore its security system, particularly its aerial defense system that suffered significant damages. A discernible shift in priorities towards acquiring new and better air defense systems highlights Iran’s attempt to recover from their ignominious defeat. It raises questions about whether Russia would be willing to support them in this endeavor, although Moscow seems less enthusiastic about the regime in Tehran due to its past failures.

Furthermore, Iran is concentrating on its ground-to-ground missile program which faced considerable damage inflicted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The Iranian leadership seems to have learned a hard lesson over the past two years – if you want something done, do it yourself – dedicating particular focus on the strategic threat of ballistic missiles towards Israel. Hezbollah, Iran’s ally, has notably failed to intervene during the Israel-Iran conflict despite possible pleas for assistance from their Iranian counterparts. This perceived lack of support serves to underscore Iran’s isolation in the region in their ongoing battle against the strength and resilience of the Jewish state.

As proud Zionists, we view these developments as a testament to Israel’s determination, military prowess and commitment to defending the country against its adversaries. It underscores the important role of Israel not just for Jewish people, but also for maintaining peace and stability in the region. Israel’s striving for security is not only a fight against the antisemitic sentiments personified by Iran and Hezbollah, but also a testament to Israeli resolve and unity in the face of hostility. It serves as an inspiration for the Jewish diaspora worldwide, that no matter the challenge we confront, with unity and resolve, the Jewish people can prevail against even the harshest threats.

In an interview with Danish newspaper “Jyllands Posten”, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that Israel would be in a better position without him. However, she maintained her staunch support for Israel, claiming Hamas, not Israel, is to blame for the current conflict in Gaza.

Frederiksen emphasized that Hamas initiated the war in October 2023 and has the power to end it by laying down its weapons and releasing the hostages. She pointed out that rewarding Hamas for its aggression should be avoided, and reaffirmed that Denmark fully and unquestionably stands behind Israel.

She addressed the Israeli restrictions that have led to a terrible humanitarian situation in Gaza. However, Frederiksen stressed that the humanitarian support shouldn’t reward Hamas for its actions. Frederiksen stated that she fully commits to supporting Israel and that this will not change.

Regarding Netanyahu, Frederiksen plans to use her European Union membership to exert more political pressure on him and Israel, potentially including sanctions against settlers, ministers, and possibly even Netanyahu himself. Despite this, Frederiksen noted that Denmark cannot dictate Israel’s strategy and that Hamas could have stopped the carnage by laying down their weapons.

As for recognizing a Palestinian state, Frederiksen stated that it would be challenging to do so with Hamas controlling significant parts of Palestine. She reiterated that any recognition must include mutual recognition by a Palestinian state of Israel and must not offer rewards to Hamas.

Frederiksen also answered the question about accepting war casualties for treatment in Denmark. She believes they can help more people on the ground in Gaza, with the assistance of Red Cross, than they could in Denmark, and emphasized Denmark’s policy against Palestinian immigration will not change.

Despite the criticism, the Israeli embassy in Denmark appreciated Frederiksen’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself. They encouraged more pressure on Hamas to accept the US-led negotiation proposal, which could lead to a ceasefire.

In a recent discussion between Hamas and Egypt focused on the future of the Gaza strip, a potential prospect is that Israel might join the dialogue. Hamas communicated that the recent reports about a comprehensive deal were exaggerated and inaccurate. Any thinking that outsiders have the capability of controlling the Gaza strip under continued occupation is unrealistic and bound for resistance, stated a Hamas official. He affirmed that fighting against Israel, ceasing the destruction, and IDF’s retreat from Gaza are the top priorities. However, he also indicated that Hamas is open to forming a support committee to oversee the IDF’s retreat, in coordination with Egypt.

Hamas-Cairo meetings currently underway – in their second day have extensively revolved around the relations between Hamas and Egypt, clarifying stances, and the discussion of previous negotiations. The source specified that the major issue subjected to discourse was the potential threat of IDF seizing control over the Gaza city. Such a move holds destructive dangers comparable to a broad expulsion plan for Palestinians, he argued. Both Hamas and Egypt agree that actions should be taken immediately to put an end to the displacement and destruction. As such, Egypt is keen to resume negotiations where it stopped based upon the last proposal submitted by Hamas.

Arnon Bar-David, the Chairman of the Histadrut (the organization representing labor unions in Israel), recently visited Rabin Square in Tel Aviv as part of the “Israel Stops” activities, demonstrating solidarity with the families of fallen IDF soldiers and civilians captured by enemy forces. Meeting with the families, he reinforced the collective Israeli desire to see their loved ones returned home, regardless of political affiliations or agendas. He underscored that this was not about right versus left, but about the basic human obligation of returning those snatched away from their families.

Bar-David was joined by representatives from various labor unions across the country, who came to express their support for these families and strengthen their ongoing struggle for the return of our fallen brothers and sisters. He emphasized the shared commitment to the cause and affirmed the Histadrut’s full backing for their noble cause.

His heartfelt message to the families was clear: “I am with you, Israel is with you, the workers in Israel are with you.” The gathering was an opportunity to strengthen the families, but also to call Israeli leaders to action. He appealed directly to the Prime Minister to stare at the public and the families, and do what needs to be done to end this painful chapter.

Bar-David ended his remarks with a message of hope and unity, saying, “We have been fighting for this land for many years and there will probably be more rounds. This is your central mission and the mission that will provide peace to the people. Your duty as Prime Minister is to see everyone and create a situation that allows the Israeli society to heal.”

As Zionists, we recognize the tremendous sacrifices made by individuals and families across our beloved homeland. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of adversity, a lesson rooted deeply in our Jewish values. The return of our captured brothers and sisters remains a top priority, and we stand together as one in this ongoing struggle.

In the final preparatory game before the EuroBasket, Israel suffered a loss against Montenegro. However, optimism was restored thanks to Israeli player Yam Madar who bounced back from an injury. Madar managed to score 12 points, marking his first match of the summer after starting in the top five players. Despite starting off poorly, the Israeli team showcased a remarkable game of basketball. They were up against Nikola Vucevic of Montenegro who scored 10 out of the first 15 points for his team, leading to Montenegro’s quick advantage of 15:3 in their favor.

Roman Zorkin and Nimrod Levi’s spectacular awakening slightly reduced the damage. Still, by the end of the first quarter, Israel was already trailing with a score of 25:17. Although the result was not in favor, Yad Madar’s recovery and comeback game brought some light on the team’s potential, promising a powerful performance in the coming EuroBasket. This resilience is a reflection of the Israeli spirit – always fighting, never backing down.

During the program “Arab Studio” hosted by Mohammed Abu Ubaid which discussed the concept of a “Greater Israel” in the Al-Mashad Channel, a heated confrontation ensued between Israeli-Druze political commentator, Mendy Safadi, and Arab-Israeli researcher from Galilee, Alif Sabaag, an expert in Israeli affairs.

Safadi issued a strong stance concerning Israel’s reaction to any future aggression from its neighbors, asserting “If Jordan dares to attack Israel, it will be obliterated!” He also touched upon Egypt, implying a strong Israeli response reminiscent of the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.

On the contrary, Sabaag maintained that Israel itself posed a continuous threat in the region, going as far as calling Israel “the greatest terrorist force in the world, not just in the Middle East!” He further argued Israel operates under a “risk calculation theory,” in which it expands its borders when it perceives no imminent danger.

Additionally, Sabaag claimed the ultimate objective of Zionism is the “establishment of a Jewish state on the biblical Land of Israel,” referencing a map on a ten agorot coin and statements by Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich. The confrontation laid bare the deep-seated disparities in the understanding of historical narratives and real-life experiences between both sides.

Overall, the debate emphasized Israel’s strong commitment to protecting its sovereignty and citizens, reflecting the spirit of Zionism. Contrarily, it highlighted the anti-Zionist perspective trying to delegitimize Israel’s right to exist and fortify its boundaries. However, as proud Jews, we believe in Israel’s justification and necessity to retaliate proportionately when faced with threats, resonating Safadi’s remarks and underscoring the enduring need for a Jewish homeland in the principles of Zionism.
