“Enduring Peace Agreements and Challenges: Israel’s War and Aftermath”

– Peace Agreements Prove Crucial Amidst Tensions:

The war that commenced in October 2023 has highlighted the importance and success of Israel’s peace agreements. Despite pressures from Hamas, the Palestinian Authority kept calm and Arab Israeli citizens stood by Israel. This unified stance even stretched to Arab countries with peace agreements with Israel such as Egypt, Jordan, and Gulf states who aided Israel, rather than engage in conflict. The events underline the significance of maintaining peace agreements in tense periods.

– Recognition for Israelis’ Sacrifices:

Mirav Svirsky, sister to a slain Israeli soldier, received appreciative correspondence from the government for her heavy personal sacrifice. The letter highlighted the government’s hope for the return of all captives and recognized the contributions of individuals such as Svirsky to the end of this war.

– Bank of Israel Curbs Excessive Leveraging:

In a bid to control excessive leveraging in the housing market, the Bank of Israel proposed new regulations limiting mortgage abilities for all-purpose loans. The new rules favoured homebuyers by offering lower interest rates and enabled the use of homes as collateral against high-interest rates.

– Deteriorating Sentiment in Jordan:

31 years post the peace agreement with Israel, the sentiment towards the nation in Jordan is at a record low. Primarily due to the unresolved Palestinian issue, support in Jordan now stands at about 3%, the lowest ever rate among all Arab countries surveyed.

– Ongoing Threat from Iran:

Israeli security officials warn against continuing terrorist threat from Iran. Despite having several previously planned operations foiled, Iran’s drive to target Israelis has reportedly increased. Israeli Intelligence agencies have thwarted many attacks, leading to the discovery of Iran’s terrorist platforms.

– Soldiers’ Return in Progress:

After an intense week, another captured soldier’s casket was returned to Israeli territory for identification. This leaves 12 soldiers still captives in Gaza. Search efforts for additional soldiers continue with heightened optimism if required equipment is made available.

– Hamas Ready to Hand Over Casualties:

Hamas is reportedly prepared to hand over up to nine casualties to the Red Cross. Additionally, Israel contemplates extending its territory in Gaza as a response to Hamas’ delay in releasing casualties.

– Transportation Boost for Million Strong Protest:

Israel’s Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced increased public transit provisions in view of the million-strong protest planned by Haredi leadership in Jerusalem.

– Missing Soldiers’ Families Demand Policy Changes:

Families of missing soldiers are clamouring for a change in handling negotiations, asserting that the current stance provides Hamas with no motivation to return servicemen bodies. They call for more government involvement to change the situation and explore new opportunities.
