“Regional Security Construct” Unveiled: Documents released by the Washington Post and the ICIJ have brought to light a secret alliance between Israel and several Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the UAE. The “Regional Security Construct” is established to counter Iranian threats and undergird military ties in the region. Despite public criticism of Israel by these Arab nations and recent tension following an Israeli airstrike on Qatar, this collaboration continues, largely dependent on US support for security. Longest Atypical War Feeds Israeli Fears: This year Marks Israel’s participation in its longest-ever war, a deviation from its usual strategy, causing concern among its citizens. Fears range from doubt in US President Donald Trump’s reliability to worries regarding a regaining Hamas and a potential Palestinian state. Israel is also concerned that minor details could obstruct a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The ongoing unease is fuelled by Hamas’ latest rejection of President Trump’s war-ending deal, leading to no country apart from Israel accepting the offer. Hamas Clashes with Accused Collaborators: Hamas Militants have attacked members of a militia group under suspicion of collaboration with Israel. The attacked group’s leader, “Abu Shabaab,” argues that their organization, “The People’s Forces,” is an independent body that believes in dialogue as the optimal conflict resolution method. They view their weapons as strictly for self-defense, refraining from utilizing them beyond their borders. US Financial Support to Israel: A recent study by Brown University indicates that the U.S. has contributed around $32 billion within the past two years to aid Israel in its war efforts. This figure decreased to between $8.5 and $11 billion in the second year, down from nearly $23 billion during the first. First Stage Peace Deal Between Israel and Hamas: President Trump has confirmed that Israel and Hamas have consented to the first stage of a peace deal. The agreement will result in the immediate release of all captives, and Israel will pull back its forces to a mutually-agreed boundary. Following this announcement, Israeli officials interviewed by CNN shared their hope for an expedited release of the captives. Israeli Air Strikes Continue: Despite the peace deal, Israel has executed further air strikes aimed at bulldozers and other machinery between the villages of Masilah and Al-Najariyah in southern Lebanon. The attacks caused one fatality and seven injuries, as stated by the Lebanese Ministry of Health. There are worldwide concerns as these strikes occur after a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Domestic Politics in Israel: In Israel’s domestic politics, a candidate reaches out to the Jewish community, including visits to synagogues during Jewish holidays. Despite the Satmar Hasidic sect’s formal endorsement of his opponent, he received a warm reception during his visit. The election is due in less than a month. American Overseer of IDF Withdrawal: U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside US Central Command Bradley Cooper and Major General Eyal Zamir, visited an IDF post in Gaza to supervise the IDF’s withdrawal.
