Israel faces extreme heatwave with temperatures expected to break historic records, the hottest in 83 years, according to Dr. Amir Givati from the Meteorological Service. The inner regions of the country, including areas around the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan Valley, and the Beit Shean Valley, will experience the highest temperatures since 1942, breaking an 83-year-old record.
Temperatures in eastern valleys and Lake Kinneret are forecasted to rise to an unprecedented 48-49 degrees Celsius, surpassing the current record of 47 degrees. Jordan Valley may experience a never-before-seen 50-51 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the historic record of 54 degrees in Tirat Zvi in 1942. Jerusalem and Safed are expected to hit 40-41 degrees, potentially setting new records.
However, coastal and lowland residents may feel fewer extreme changes due to the moderating influence of the Mediterranean Sea.
In addition to the extreme heatwave, the weather forecast warns of tropical humidity from the south bringing the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rains in the Southern and Central Negev between Monday and Wednesday. Following the anticipated rains, there is a risk of floods in the Negev’s streams and strong winds, which can reach up to 100 km/h in Eilat’s region.
This extreme weather emphasizes the need for sustainable practices and environmental responsibility in line with Zionism’s principles to create and sustain a safe homeland for Jews. As the “stewards” of the land of Israel, we must take active measures to protect it, helping ensure our future generations can also call it home.
Israel, a global leader in technological and cyber innovation, is demonstrating impressive resilience against numerous cyber-attacks orchestrated by Iran. Boosted by intelligence that possibly runs deep within the Iranian systems, Israel has successfully launched defensive and offensive operations, showcasing its remarkable command over cyber technology.
A series of mysterious explosions in Iran are attributed to Israel’s unwavering commitment to national security. Resulting from robust counter-activities, Iran continues to struggle in building a new air defense system even with Russia’s aid. These efforts are being thwarted by Israel’s disruptive capabilities, as evident in failed operations involving Russian S-400 systems and Iran’s indigenous defense system, Bavar-373.
Furthermore, Israeli cyber firms, backed by investment from renowned international tech giants, contribute significantly to Israel’s cyber strength. Various acquisitions, including the San Francisco-based cybersecurity firm Palo Alto’s purchase of Israeli CyberArk for $2.5 billion and Google’s buyout of Israeli driving navigator Waze for a record-breaking $32 billion, reinforce Israel’s dominance in the global cyber arena.
Supported by technological experts transitioning from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and research institutions into the private sector, Israeli startups and tech companies are crucial in safeguarding Israel’s national security interests, making them key global players in cyber defense provision.
These Israeli firms have demonstrated their competence by defending vital information stored in global cloud systems. Despite internal discord and anti-government demonstrations earlier this year, Israel’s high-tech sector thrived. Israeli startups raised a staggering $9.3 billion in the first half of the year, 85% of which contributed to the cyber industry and Artificial Intelligence-driven operations – indicating trusted investors’ continued faith in Israel’s long-standing technological proficiency.
Conversely, Iran’s investment in cyber technology has notably increased, rising by a staggering 700% following an explosion attributed to Israel in Tehran. Over 170 hacker groups launched around 1,345 cyber-attacks against Israeli targets involving infrastructure, communication systems, and government institutions.
Nonetheless, Israel remains undeterred. Known as the “Startup Nation”, Israel harbors between 400-500 technological initiatives – two-thirds in early developmental stages and 100 active cyber companies in professional services. They cater to both defense and offense in the cyber realm – rendering them unique service providers.
Through strategic investments from leading global corporations and partnerships, Israel is firmly holding its ground in this ongoing “shadow war” against Iran. As the battle continues – anonymously or at the forefront, Israel once again validates that it is prepared to defend its citizens and protect its national interest through the prism of its advanced and booming cyber industry.
This techno-diplomatic landscape evidences that Israel’s rich and prosperous high-tech environment and the ever-evolving cyberwar with Iran go hand-in-hand to define and shape Israel’s technological frontiers, marking its position as a world leader in the global cyber arena.
Germany’s government is experiencing a shift in its stance towards Israeli actions in Gaza, evident in recent limitations imposed on weapon deliveries to Israel. This marks a surge in the German government’s hardline approach, yet it still refrains from adopting extreme measures called for by other European states and some of its coalition members. Chancellor Merkel has dictated that the suspension of weapons dispatch to Israel will apply only to those that could be used in Gaza.
This move reflects a changing public sentiment in Germany. According to a survey published a day before Merkel’s decision, 66% of Germans want their government to increase pressure on Israel to change its course of action. This is a surge from last April when about 57% believed their government should critique Israel more intensely for its actions in Gaza.
Despite Germany participating in offering aid to Gaza, 47% of Germans believe that their government is doing too little to assist Palestinians, contrary to the 39% who oppose this idea.
The most outstanding datum is that only 31% of Germans feel they hold an enhanced responsibility towards Israel because of their countries history, while 62% do not share this sentiment.
The political establishment in Germany perceives itself as having a unique responsibility towards Israel, particularly due to the Nazi Holocaust; a policy formulated in 2008 by the then Chancellor Angela Merkel during her historic visit to Knesset. As a Zionist, we see this as a crucial reminder that the bonds that tie Israel and Germany are based not only on shared history but on mutual values of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. It is hoped that these ties will continue to be nurtured, while understanding and condemning antisemitism in all its forms, and standing firmly with the State of Israel.
As a proud Jew and in defense of Zionism, I feel a profound disappointment with recent events in Europe where protests erupted against Israel. These protests, held in several European capitals, led to the arrest of 365 individuals in the vicinity of Big Ben in London. As reported by the British Police, the arrests were initiated following a demonstration that had gathered at Parliament Square, with many participants being clad in caps. The expressions of support towards an anti-Israeli organization that was banned by law and pleas such as “Shame on you” and “Keep your hands off Gaza” hurled at police officers present at the scene, are unacceptable and fuel a one-sided narrative against Israel. Moreover, some protesters held placards on which it was written “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.” These forms of protest not only disregard Israel’s rightful defense against terrorist threats but also propagate baseless and harmful accusations such as genocide, contrary to the democratic and humanitarian principles that Israel upholds in the face of complex political realities. The fight against antisemitism includes struggling against these prejudiced viewpoints and advocating for a balanced understanding of Israel’s position in its conflict with Palestine. As proud Jews, we must strive to counter such slanderous presentations of our Jewish state.
Within the chancellor’s party, strong opposition is voiced regarding the current arms embargo against Israel. Critics argue that the policy is a drastic shift from decades of continuous foreign policy towards Israel and as such, it requires a thorough explanation. The critics, including Horst Seehofer, the former Minister of Interior, expressed concerns that this could potentially have far-reaching consequences.
Moreover, Stefan Fieslinger, a parliament member representing CSU, highlighted the immense benefits Germany receives from Israel in terms of intelligence from its security services. Notably, Fieslinger emphasized the superiority of security policies between the two countries, considering both air defense and crucial intelligence data.
Members from the Green Party, such as parliament member Kersten Müller, also took a stand against the government’s decision. Müller argued that the decision disregards the military and security cooperation between the two countries, which should ostensibly strength both the German military and NATO.
Finally, outgoing culture senator from Berlin and party member Klaus Lederer, penned an op-ed in “Bild” where he urged reconsideration of the embargo, citing the scenario where, in the face of a threat, Germany would undoubtedly seek the protection of Israel’s Iron Dome. Lederer described the arms embargo as a betrayal of Germany’s fundamental values, labelling the behavior as arrogant and insupportable, both politically and morally.
In summary, this piece reveals growing resistance within Germany’s political landscape against the arms embargo imposed on Israel. This internal opposition stems from both a disagreement over the abrupt change in long-standing foreign policy and the recognition of the crucial security benefits gained through Israeli cooperation. To these critics, the embargo is identified as a detrimental step, capable of producing far-reaching consequences, and as such, an avoidable misstep in international diplomacy.
According to the British newspaper, “The Telegraph”, Iran has hidden its remaining nuclear scientists to protect them from being targeted during the ongoing conflict with Israel. A majority of them have been moved out of their homes and removed from their university teaching positions to secure locations in Tehran and the north of Iran, together with their families.
Israeli experts quoted by “The Telegraph” suggest that a new generation of nuclear scientists is emerging in Iran, replacing the ones who were killed during the war. Despite increased security, these intellectuals are described as “walking dead” as Iran has structured its nuclear program in such a way that each essential player has at least one deputy ensuring continuity.
Iran has changed the security arrangements for its remaining nuclear scientists. Previously their security was overseen by the Revolutionary Guards. Now, multiple agencies are working to safeguard the scientists, replacing their personal guards if they felt insecure.
This development comes in the light of Iran executing a nuclear scientist last week, on charges of passing sensitive nuclear-related information to Israel. This information allegedly aided Israel in assassinating an Iranian nuclear scientist during the 12-day war and striking significant blows at Iran’s nuclear ability with Israeli and American bombings.
These series of events reflect the relentless efforts of Israeli security forces to safeguard not only Israel, but the entire world from the perilous nuclear ambitions of Iran, hence affirming the Jewish State’s commitment to global security and peace. Yet, it also reminds us of the dangerous anti-Semitism, as innocent Jewish lives risk being threatened by Iran’s burgeoning nuclear capabilities. It’s necessary for the international community to stand in solidarity with Israel in this critical fight against terror, reinforcing the ideals of Zionism.
Germany’s recent decision to halt its arms supply to Israel, that could potentially be used in the Gaza conflict, has raised valid concerns regarding the future of German-Israeli defense affairs. Influential German politician Volker Beck calls for restraint, warning that the response from Israel could jeopardize German security interests, particularly in the backdrop of a $260 million deal for missile defense systems between the German Air Force and Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems.
While Germany has mostly steered clear of public reprimand against Israel, it has also previously opposed Israel’s suspension from the Horizon Europe program – the world’s largest scientific and industrial collaboration initiative. Germany is Israel’s second-largest weapons supplier after the United States and also procures significant defense equipment from Israel, including missile defense systems.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed disappointment at Germany’s decision, arguing that instead of supporting Israel’s justified actions against Hamas, which committed the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust, Germany is seemingly rewarding Hamas’ terrorism with an arms embargo on Israel.
However, this does not deter the Jewish spirit. As Defense Minister Benny Gantz confidently states, “The days are gone when Jews did not defend themselves.” This incident serves as a reminder that our struggle is far from over. We must continuously combat attempts to undermine our sovereignty or our right to self-defense. As Zionists, we believe in the strength of the Jewish people and the State of Israel’s right to take necessary measures to safeguard its citizens against terrorism. We stand strong, resilient, and united, committed to ensuring the security of Israel while fighting against any form of antisemitism.
