– Israeli Military Actions Heighten Tensions in Middle East:
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched strikes against more than 40 Hezbollah infrastructures in Lebanon. Reporting an upswing in hostilities, IDF targeted active terrorist bases, military buildings, and other terror-related sites. Due to increased regional tensions, the Home Front Command plans to extend warnings for numerous northern settlements, including large cities like Acre and Karmiel. The IDF has also reported the interception of an unmanned aircraft entering from Lebanese territory, three suspected air targets entering Israeli territory, and the firing of another rocket towards an aerial target in an IDF-operated area in southern Lebanon.
– Israel Supplies Advanced Laser Defense Systems to UAE:
Amid escalating tensions with Iran, Israel has shipped an advanced laser defense system to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to counteract missile and drone attacks. The transferred devices include an innovative tracking system called “Spectro”, capable of identifying Shahed-type drones from distances of up to 20km. In addition, a laser defense system, “Light Shield”, developed initially to protect from Hezbollah missile attacks, has also been sent. It is noteworthy to mention that this is the first reported deployment of the “Light Shield” and “Spectro” systems in the UAE.
– Trump Administration Announces Ceasefire with Iran:
A senior official from the Trump administration announced a ceasefire with Iran, effectively indicating an end to the war. Following a calm period since the ceasefire began in early April, with no reported fire exchanges, Defense Secretary Pete Hagest reinforces this interpretation. This development could potentially help the White House avoid mandatory congressional approval for military action stretching beyond 60 days, as stipulated in a 1973 law.
– “Sumoud Flotilla” Accuses Israel of Illegal Military Operation:
The organizers of “Sumoud Flotilla” have accused Israel of conducting an “illegal and violent military operation”. They allege Israeli naval vessels commandeered their boats, damaged equipment, and arrested participants. Stranded passengers were left on impaired boats, reportedly in the path of an impending storm, affecting over 180 participants directly.
– Potential National Rally Successor Supports Israel’s Actions:
Jordan Bardella, a likely replacement for Marine Le Pen as president of the National Rally party in France, voiced support for Israel’s actions in the Middle East. He argued that the IDF’s campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon is fundamentally about Israel’s survival and security. However, he also emphasized that Israel’s response must be proportionate. This viewpoint conflicts with the official stance of the French government, typically allied with Lebanon and frequently critical of Israel’s actions.
